Working In Alicante

If you are considering the possibility of working in Alicante, then there are quite a few possibilities in a whole range of different jobs that might very well be that sort of work you would be interested in.

As an EC citizen, you can either work as self employed or even as an employee, whereby the employer would have to pay your national insurance, income tax and holiday pay. Dole pay and pension contributions would also be made by your employer. If you need any further details regards tax etc, I would recommend "Easy Tax", who are based in El Campello, just up the coast from Alicante.

At the moment it is a lot easier to become self employed, as there just aren't many positions available under current economic conditions. For small businesses you would also be self employed, and you are able to pay a fixed amount of tax and VAT every quarter, as long as your earning are under an established figure, so in the case of a bar this method is ideal and there is no need to register all of the takings.

The best jobs in Alicante for non residents are without a doubt in "OAMI", the European Patent and Trade Mark office, with excellent salaries and great perks if you have kids.

Other possible jobs that you may consider in Alicante would be English teachers, tradesmen, estate agents, Internet business and even bar work in English speaking areas of Alicante.

I have been working in Alicante for over 20 years now, in several different sectors and have seen salaries getting closer and closer to Northern European salaries, especially after the introduction of the Euro.

If you think you can find a job in Alicante, I would recommend you take any opportunity that comes along, as life here is so much more chilled, and even when it's scorching hot.

Come to Alicante for a Winter Sunshine Break

Are you already feeling the cold, and fed up with not being able to go outside, either because it's too cold or it just doesn't ever seem to stop raining. Well, there could be an answer out there to your predicament. Yes, why not come to Alicante for a short break!

Alicante is probably just a 2 hour flight from where ever you may be right now, if you live in Europe, and as you know at this time of year flights can be snapped up for virtually nothing, through airline companies like Ryan Air, Monarch or Easy Jet.

The current temperature here at the moment (early Autumn) is about 20 - 25 degrees centigrade, although it could get as high as 30, and these temperatures will remain with us until about Christmas time.

You won't see many of the locals on the beach at this time of year, who probably think that the tourists who are having fun on the beach and even swimming in the sea are crazy.

Cheap accommodation is also easy to find at this time of year, whether you like staying in hotels, hostels or rental accommodation. You can find cheap accommodation on the Internet easily as you would cheap flights to Alicante.

So don't feel down about the weather where ever you may be right now, just get on the next plane to Alicante and enjoy a sunny break away from the cold

Buying A Property In Alicante - 10 Important Tips To Avoid Disaster

1) If you are really considering buying a property in Alicante, you will need an English speaking Solicitor that specializes in property and land law. I would suggest you contact the British Consulate in Alicante, who will supply details of independent lawyers to UK property investors. If you need to contact the British Consulate in Alicante, either ring (+34) 96 521 60 22 or visit http://ukinspain.fco.gov.uk/en/our-offices-in-spain/consular-offices/alicante-consulate/

2) Important decisions to make before you purchase a property in Alicante, would be to decide on the area you would like to live in. Rural, in town, by the Alicante Golf course, or by the beach. If you decide on living in town, then you don't really need a car as local transport is excellent.

3) Once you have decided on the area you wish to live in, having taken into consideration, local amenities, schools, hospitals, etc. , just have a look around on your own and then have somebody phone on your behalf, so that you can deal with the owners direct. Avoid Estate Agents, but if you can't, make sure that you know what commission they are charging. In today's economic down turn, you can get them to as low as 3%, and you shouldn't pay any more than that.

4) Bartering is quite acceptable in Alicante, so always offer less than the asking price. If the neighbourhood of your choice is full of for sale signs, then offer a lot less and you could get yourself a real bargain property investment.

5) Check the property you are going to buy in Alicante with a fine tooth pick, as any relevant damage can also be considered at the negotiating table.

6) Mortgage options are plentiful in Alicante, but my tip here would be to get the loan for as long as possible, paying as little capital as possible. It just means you have more money to spend every month. Most banks have English speaking staff, and you will even see some British high street banks in Alicante, as well as the Banco de Santender.

7) You need to register yourself in the Town hall on the Electoral roll known as "El Padron", if you buy a property in Alicante, and also get a NIE number from the Immigration Office in Alicante. This link may be helpful -

8) You will also have to pay a 10% deposit for the property, which is not refundable by Alicante law, should you be the party that retracts. If the vendors retract, then you will be refunded double the deposited amount.

9) When you sign at the notary, you will have to carry quite a large amount of cash, so make sure that everything is ready for the big day. You will be provided with a translator for the reading of the new property and mortgage deeds.

10) Make sure that the vendor gives you a 500 euro deposit to pay on-going bills or that their payment is agreed upon before signing the deeds.

Alicante Travel Tips

Alicante is an ever growing city as more and more people chose Alicante as the ideal place in Europe to live a comfortable life, within modern surroundings and with a permanent blue sky. "Wake up happy" is the feeling you have when living in Alicante, and without a doubt the most upmarket region of Alicante is the Alicante Golf resort, located within 200 meters of the San Juan beach.

Getting to Alicante is so easy with daily flights from almost every European country, and accommodation is never a problem due to a large number of holiday rental villas and apartments up and down the Costa Blanca coastline, including Alicante, Benidorm, Villajoyosa, El Campello and Alicante Golf.

For many arriving to Alicante and finding accommodation is normally taken care of before arriving, but once here in Alicante, you may need to travel. These Alicante travel tips will help you arrive at any destination whether within Alicante or any other Spanish destination.

Alicante's main train station is found in the centre of Alicante near the "El Corte Ingles" shopping centre. Virtually every major Spanish city is accessible, including Madrid, Seville, Barcelona, Valencia and Bilbao. There are high speed train connections on a regular basis and you can even book at the station or online at www.renfe.es - Address: Avda. De Salamanca, Alicante. Tel: +34 965 923 850.

If you are looking at having a look locally, some of the best spots are just North of Alicante and the Tram is ideal for arriving in virtual luxury at very reasonable rates. More details can be found on their web site - www.fgvalicante.com . Trams run every 15 or 30 minutes and tickets from Alicante to El Campello can either be purchased in the tram station or on the tram itself if that service is not available. For just over a Euro you could be in Alicante Golf within 10 minutes and have a walk around what is becoming the elite residential area of Alicante.

Within Alicante itself there is a great bus service that will take you to which ever part you wish to visit. The red buses are used for the inner city areas of Alicante, whereas the Blue buses go to the surrounding villages such as El Campello which is the number 21. Check out the following web site for Alicante bus travel times - http://www.alicante-ayto.es/ingles/traffic_transport/transportes-tarifas-tam.html

The Alicante central bus station is situated at "Address: Calle Portugal 17, Alicante", and also has services to the rest of the province of Alicante, as well as national and international services. You will normally find traveling by bus the cheaper option to the train, but I would personally only chose that option as the last.

One of the best ways to travel short and long distances from Alicante is the public bus system. Alicante has a nice bus station located in Calle Portugal - close to the harbour. Many bus companies operate from this bus station and offer connections to many other regions in Spain. For further information regards bus services leaving Alicante please phone +34 965 130 700.

You may on the other hand wish to avoid public transport and get a hire car direct from the Alicante airport, or you can arrange that too beforehand online. You should not be paying any more than 100 Euro a week, so compare rates first.

Getting a taxi in Alicante may sometimes be your only option, so make note of this telephone number that may come in handy - 965 10 16 11. There is a minimum service charge, but overall it is not too expensive for just an emergency. From Alicante to the Airport you would expect to pay about 30 Euro, which is about a 25 minute drive.

President Obama Effigy To Be Burnt Down In Alicante

It's June again and yes the Alicante fiestas called the Hogeuras are back again, bigger better and ready to be burnt down on the 24th June. During the week running up people come and visit Alicante, taking a stroll round the city to appreciate the hard work put in to making these huge paper mache effigies that tend to reflect what is going on in the current Spanish and International communities.

This years popular themes were the United States, Swine Flue, and climate change. Prizes are given to the best Hogueras and the local Alicantinos really do take this fiesta seriously, which represents the changing of seasons although I dread to think if only paper mache effigies were always what were actually burnt. The burning always takes place at midnight on the 24th and kicks off at the Town Hall square, which is literally packed with thousands of people shouting and singing. It is traditional to sing insulting chants at the fireman who in turn hose down the over heated crowd.

The party has started and people move round Alicante, drink in hand and enjoy other burnings. Other popular Hogueras include some by the harbor and others in a district of Alicante called Carolinas. This is all good traditional fiesta fun and tourists will always have the most wonderful experience when partying out in Alicante on San Juan night.

I would recommend staying in a hotel or hostel for the week, although if you are staying close by the Tram via has an all night service. During the week proceeding the 24th, there are firework displays down on the Alicante beach, where once again thousands of people gather to watch some quite spectacular fireworks that light up the whole sky and can be heard from Benidorm.

The average day time temperature in June is about 30º and nighttime between 15 and 20º, so you can enjoy the beach in the morning ,the fiestas in the afternoon after the siesta and then just party all night long. The local bands start to parade around the streets at 7 in the morning so now you know why I mentioned the siesta.
